The Beginning
Welcome to A Little Joy! I am glad you are reading this and visiting my site. I never started baking thinking it would be a business someday. I just LOVE to bake, anything. Since I am a teacher by day, I have always had many people ready to taste anything I would bring into school. And, trust me, people in the education world will give you their honest opinions! So as I kept getting feedback, I kept perfecting recipes, finding new ones and kept practicing. I’ve developed some favorites and am continuously adding new ones as I go along.
The business idea came along from my daughters and fans in school. I kept putting it off because I teach and am so busy. But baking was always something that allowed me to relax and forget about things. It seemed that during the recent events during the pandemic all I did was bake, probably 4-5 times a week. Since my husband, daughter and boyfriend ( who were quarantining with us) couldn’t eat all of what I baked I had an idea. We were all struggling to stay inside, not socialize, and were struggling in the early months of March-June 2020. Here’s how I managed to stay sane, stay connected to my friends and family and give people a little joy. I would bake, box up the goodies, and place them outside on my front porch. Then a text went out to friends and family about the goodies (a little joy) left outside. There was a bucket that actually said, “A Little Joy”.
There was only one catch: anyone who came over to get some baked goods, had to leave something in return. During the early days of the pandemic, there were things which were hard to find such as paper towels, toilet paper and antibacterial gel. We were also cooking everyday since take out seemed a little scary and most restaurants were closed. Throughout the time I placed baked goods outside, I received an entire case of paper towels, napkins, antibacterial gel, potatoes, homemade Limoncello, and an entire tray of lasagna. It was exciting to find things outside my door!
So there you have it! A Little Joy was created. My daughter Alana and her partner Morgan bought this site for me and started me on this journey. I am looking forward to sharing my thoughts with you here and the Little Joys that I create.
